Laker Navy Combine Held at Michawana

The skies cleared over Long Lake for the Laker Navy’s team combine trip this past weekend. Camp Michawana was host to the Laker Navy, located in nearby Hastings, MI. Although the trip was postponed a day due to inclement weather, it was another successful training trip for the whole varsity team.

The varsity men and women got straight to work upon their arrival. Seventeen men and fourteen women participated, along with head coach John Bancheri, assistant Michelle Goodwin and boatwomen Lexie Benton. Mostly in small boats, technical aspects of the stroke were the focus for the trip. Between chalk talks and drill work, knowledge was gained and inches won, all in preparation for the Head of the Grand and Head of the Charles Regattas. Additionally, all participants had time to learn and practice their sculling skills Saturday afternoon in quads and singles.

Between practices there was fun to be had. Many laughs were heard, games played, and hammocks hung. Both s’mores and scary stories were shared by the campfire. A big thanks to the parents who helped supply the pizza dinner for the team Saturday evening! The whole team is anxious for their first race which is only a short time away. Keep pulling for the Laker Navy!
