74th Dad Vail Regatta Information – Parents
Parents and Families – Our rowers/coaches are headed to New Jersey tomorrow to train for Dad Vail. The team will arrive in Philadelphia on Thursday. For our rowers, Dad Vail is the most important regatta of the season. The athletes have been training hard and need to prepare for the races throughout this next week. We want to remind families that on Friday and Saturday of next week when our rowers are racing, please respect the fact that the rowers and coaches need to be focused on their races. During the regatta, we ask that the trailer is kept as an “Athletes Only Zone”. The time before the crew launches is used to prepare and focus for the race. After the race, coaches will usually like to talk to the crew about how everything went on the water.
For those families arriving Thursday, the rowers will be practicing in the afternoon. If all goes well at practice, you can take your son/daughter out to dinner Thursday evening between 5:00pm and 7:30pm. Please have them back to their hotel by 7:30pm as there will be a team meeting beginning at 8:00pm. In the best interest of the athletes, we ask that you take your son/daughter to eat where they can have a relaxed dinner.
Thanks to all who are headed to Dad Vail to support the team. We hope you understand our request due to the significance and importance of this regatta. Please cheer loudly! One rower at MACRA told me there were GVSU supporters all along the Grand River and they could hear cheering all the way down. She said it made them try harder the whole way ☺.
Safe travels – Go Laker Navy!
