Lakers have a Strong showing at the ACRA National Championship

The American Collegiate Rowing Association National Championship is officially over, which marks the end of the triple crown and the end of spring season for the Laker Navy. After rescheduling the whole regatta the day before racing was scheduled to start due to possible severe thunderstorms, all heats were turned into time trials with semi finals.

The severe weather held off and all boats were able to race. Georgia was hot and humid which was quite the change for the Lakers, but we fought through it. All boats advanced to the A, B, and C finals with strong finishes in each race. The highlights from this weekend were multiple coaching, academic, and all region awards. The Women’s Varsity 8+ took 2nd in the Grand Final winning a silver medal. The Men’s Varsity 8+ fell short of advancing to the Grand Final out of the time trial. However, the Men’s varsity 8+ would finish 1st in the Grand Final.

Other notable accomplishments include the Women’s Pair, who won the grand final and won a national championship in the pair. The Men’s frosh novice 4+ took 8th in the Grand Final after some fast racing.

Overall the Laker Navy has had another successful season and a strong showing at the triple crown. We would like to thank all of our supporters and the parents who help out and cook for us at each regatta. We appreciate everything that you all do for us. Select crews look forward to training and racing in Greece and Henley in a few weeks. Official ACRA results are posted as well.
