Fall Regatta Call for Help

To all parents/families—

As promised, here are details for parent/family support for GVSU Rowing regattas.  We did not get anyone to volunteer as the parent coordinator this year, so we will try a little different approach.  I have met with some of the coaches who gave me the regattas at which they would appreciate support and also provided suggestions for types of food.

So, I am asking for a parent/family or two families to ‘host’ a regatta.   It will be this family’s responsibility to organize the food for the regatta, get food donations and do the setup/takedown, etc.   All parents/families are welcome to help out at any regatta, but we will need someone ‘in charge’ for the specific regatta.  Standard supplies may be able to be kept at the RTC and sent with the team, or may be able to be handed off from one family to another at the regatta.   Since we do not want to share all parents’ email addresses with everyone, I will work with the host(s) and put out the initial call for food items and then turn it over to the host to communicate with those who are helping out.

Parents/families who cannot help out with food donations, but would still like to help can make a cash donation to GVSU Rowing.  The host(s) would then have some money available to help purchase items for a regatta that have not been donated.   Cash donations are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt from the university.   If you wish to make a cash donation, please make a check payable to GVSU Rowing, and mail it to me at:

Allendale, MI  49401

If we are serving breakfast, the menu will be bagels/cream cheese/peanut butter, hot oatmeal, fruit, granola bars.  If we are serving lunch, options would include pasta salad, veggies, turkey/cheese sandwiches, chicken on the grill, soup, and peanut butter/jelly sandwiches.  Beverages would be water, Gatorade and hot chocolate.    Coffee would be appreciated by coaches/parents.

The Fall regattas where parental/family support would be appreciated would be:

October 16:  Head of the Grand Regatta (Lansing, MI)

    Lunch only
Full Team – approximately 120 people

October 21-23:  Head of the  Charles (Boston, MA)

Would like to send food for the team in the vans.  Need cash donations to purchase food.
I will put snack bags together.
    2 Varsity 8’s, 1 Club 4 – approximately 30 people

October 29:  Head of the Eagle (Indianapolis, IN)

Breakfast and Lunch – all day event
Varsity Men and Women that did not go to Boston and all Novice – approximately 90 people

November 6:  American Heritage River Fall Classic (Wyandotte, MI)
    Lunch Only

Varsity Men and Women that are not going to Wichita and all Novice – approximately 90  people

November 12:  GVSU Frostbite Regatta (Allendale, MI)

    Lunch Only

Full team – approximately 120 people

Please email/call me if you can volunteer to host one of these regattas.   For the regattas where the full team is not participating, please check with your son/daughter to be sure they will be rowing at the regatta you are volunteering to host.  Once I get responses back, we’ll figure out assignments.

Thank you for all your support!  Looking forward to hearing from you.  Go Laker Navy!
