East Lansing, MI

Head of the Grand Regatta

The Laker Navy kicks off their fall season with the Head of the Grand Regatta in East Lansing, hosted by the Michigan State Spartans. Both varsity and novice rowers will see their first action of the year on this 3.3 kilometer course. The Head of the Grand is the first step in a successful fall season!

The varsity program will ride the momentum of a strong finish to the 2015 spring season. Training hard all fall, both men and women’s teams are excited to finally start racing. When asked about this upcoming weekend, Junior Tom Connolly replied “There’s no feeling like rowing full speed down a course. I think I speak for everyone when I say I cannot wait to get back out there.”

After countless hours of work, both novice men and women will compete against other schools for the first time in their rowing careers. Full of potential, the class of 2019 will showcase their abilities against other Michigan schools. The novice men will be defending last year’s victory over the University of Michigan and the novice women will look to continue to be competitive with the MSU Spartan women, a division I varsity program.

Sunday’s schedule can be found here.

Come out and enjoy a great weekend with the Laker Navy! Please come and join us at one of the few regattas we travel to that are in state. Your support is always needed! The race is at the MSU boat house in Grand River Park just outside of Lansing, a map of the race site can be found here. We hope to see you there!

The Grand Valley State University Rowing Club challenges its student-athletes to reach the highest level to which they aspire both academically and athletically, while continuing to build and sustain a nationally competitive intercollegiate rowing program.
