Laker Navy Finishes Sets Sights on Indy

After another successful Head of the Charles, the Laker Navy is heading to Eagle Creek Park to compete in the Head of the Eagle. Unlike previous years, the combined might of both varsity and novice squads will race at Indianapolis. One of the more unique races of the year, crews will race both a 5k head race and a 1000 meter sprint piece, giving the novice their first taste of what the spring season has in store.

The Head of the Eagle brings with it some tight competition. For the men’s events, the University of Wisconsin, a division I mens program, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who claimed gold in the collegiate 4+ at Charles, will both be present. The women’s events features GVSU racing the Boilermakers of Purdue and the University of Louisville, another scholarship program. This event will be a great challenge and another opportunity to build speed against high quality programs.

With the end of the fall season closing in quickly, every member of the team is eager to race in one of the last regattas of the fall. Check back here or on social media for pictures and the results of the races. See you in Indianapolis, keep pulling for the Laker Navy!
