Grand Valley is being represented by three oarsmen at the 126th Royal Canadian Henely Regatta this week in St. Catherines, Ontario. Men’s captains Blake Donovan ’09 and Geoff Sadek ’09 are competing in the Senior B Men’s Double and Senior B Men’s Pair. Today, the combo rowed to a second place finish in heats of the Senior B Pair to qualify for the semifinals on Friday, August 8th. The time of 7:16.12 placed them roughly 6 seconds behind Fedemex Rowing Club in their heat held at 11:48am this morning. Later, they jumped into the double for the Grand Final held at 3:35pm. The pair had only been training for a couple weeks together before competition. Their time of 7:04.11 was good enough for fourth place in a competitive field that saw Siegburger Ruderverein 1910 take home Henley Gold in a time of 6:49.02. The men’s captains have stated that they hope to bring back and share their experience gained by competing in both the Royal Henley and Canadian Henley Regattas.

Also representing the Laker Navy is Kelsey Arnold ’10. Kelsey was part of the undefeated Novice Women’s eight that swept through the season and made the varsity eight that represented GVSU in England. She is rowing with Vesper Boat Club this summer, out of Philadelphia, PA. She has qualified for the Grand Final of the Senior B Women’s eight on Friday, August 8th and will also compete in the heats of the Senior B Women’s 4- the morning of August 8th.

Grand Valley Rowing challenges its student-athletes to reach the highest level to which they aspire both academically and athletically, while continuing to build and sustain a nationally competitive intercollegiate rowing program.
