On Saturday, March 24th, the Grand Valley Lakers invited the Notre Dame Mens Team out to their boathouse in Allendale to race in the 1st Annual Notre Dame/Grand Valley Duel. Despite dense morning fog and a very strong current, teams raced three to four 1350 meter pieces upstream.

Grand Valley’s varsity eights began the day’s racing, followed by the lightweight fours and the novice eights. Grand Valley’s 1st varsity boat won three out of their four races, while Grand Valley’s novice eights took the top two spots in their three races. The two teams provided some great competition for each other. The racing showed that the Lakers are well on their way to a successful spring season. The team will spend the upcoming week preparing for the annual Lubbers Cup Regatta in downtown Grand Rapids.
