Lubber’s Cup Regatta
Tuesday, April 10th, 2007The Lakers opened up their spring season with the annual “Don” Lubbers Cup. Having the best weather seen in years, the Lakers held a good record over their competitors. The Lakers competed against University of Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Northern Michigan and Western Ontario. The trophies of Lubbers were awarded to: Michigan for Men’s teams Points, Notre Dame for Women’s Team Points and Lubber Cup for overall points was rewarded to Grand Valley.
Grand Valley’s WV8 had a stunning first race in The Jedlic’s, gliding into first place in that division. The Men’s Novice Eight also dominated their race over University of Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Northern Michigan and Western Ontario. The Men’s V8 ended with a 3rd place, coming in before Michigan, Michigan State and Northern. The NW8 powered through their race and into first place.
This weekend was a fantastic jumping off point for a much anticipated Spring Season. This weekend sets the Lakers up for an exciting weekend in Geneva, NY over the weekend of the 7th. The Next home regatta for the Lakers is the “Other West Coast” Regatta, which is held the weekend of the 14th.
