GVSU Hosts Successful Lubbers Cup
It was a warm, windy Lubbers Cup weekend on Spring Lake. While shortened due to wind, it was another competitive, race filled weekend for the crews that attended.
The men’s boats had strong performances all weekend. After winning their first race of the regatta, the men’s V8+ came in a close second to the 2016 ACRA champion Michigan Wolverines. After the regatta was shortened, the crew did not race again, but their efforts were enough to finish second overall.
The women’s V8+ had a solid race on Sunday. Shortened to a 1000m race due to winds, the crew won their final race of the weekend. The boat finished the weekend third overall behind Drake University and the winning Eastern Michigan Eagles, both scholarship programs.
For both the men and women, the 2V8+’s and F/N8+’s also had a successful weekend, showing large improvements from the fall season. A result of their hard work, the rest of the season looks bright for these young crews.
The next race for the entire team is the beginning of the triple crown: the MACRA Championship Regatta. We would like to thank the friends and family of the team for your support this past weekend. We would also like to thank the sponsors of the regatta and the Grand Haven Chamber for their time and effort, Lubbers Cup would not be possible without you.
Keep Pulling for the Laker Navy!
