Laker Navy has Good showing at MACRA

The Laker Navy pushed hard at the 54th annual Mid-American Collegiate Rowing Association (MACRA) championship, hosted at East Fork Lake State Park. From top to bottom, most of the team found success; at the end of the day many GVSU athletes were able to come home with medals including the Men’s and Women’s Varsity eights with coxswain.

It was a beautiful day of racing on Harsha Lake in Cincinnati, Ohio because the conditions stayed relatively calm and the sun was out. The Laker Navy was able to advance almost every boat to the finals. The Men’s Varsity 8+ took 2nd in their heat behind Michigan, advancing to the Grand Final with a time of 6:41.3. In the Final, the men’s varsity 8+ placed third with a time of 6:34.6, falling to Mercyhurst and Michigan.

The women’s V8+ won their heat and advanced to the Grand Final with a time of 7:08.9 . In the Final, the varsity women’s eight with coxswain pushed hard into a cross wind against Mercyhurst and placed second with a time of 7:12.6 behind Mercyhurst. It was bow ball to bow ball racing and exciting racing for the Laker Navy.

Other notable accomplishments include the Men’s Frosh Novice 4+ who advanced to Finals and placed second with a time of 7:39.9 falling to Mercyhurst. The women’s varsity 4+ advanced to Finals and took fifth in the final. Lastly, the Men’s Open 1x won the petite final falling short of advancing to the Grand Final. Full results can be found here.

The team now turns to Philadelphia and the Dad Vail regatta. We would like to thank the friends and family of the Laker Navy who came out to support the team, and to those that were cheering from home. Keep pulling for the Laker Navy!.
