New Season Parent Information

To Our Parents and Families —

It’s hard to believe summer is over, school has started and another rowing season is upon us. I am returning for my second season as one of the GVSU Rowing Team advisors. I am looking forward to seeing all of you that I met last year and getting a chance to meet more of you. I have been asked to continue in my role as a liaison between the rower’s parents/families and the University. So, please feel free to contact me if you have questions, concerns, need to vent, whatever….

There have been some changes this year in the coaching and support staff. John Bancheri will be head coach for both varsity men and women. Lisa Saladino will move up to an Assistant Varsity Coach. Kelsey Arnold will be coaching the women’s novice team this year. Geoff Sadek returns to coach novice men. Tyler Sellmer has replaced Kyle Lemoine as facilities/logistics manager. Kyle is waiting on an assignment with the Peace Corps. Kirsten Bartels and myself remain as advisors and Mike Stoll has joined the advising team as well.

Last year, we had great parental support at the regattas, headed up by Parent Coordinator Therese Marshall. Therese’s daughter Laura graduated in April, so we no longer have her expertise. Therese and I put out a call last spring to see if anyone was willing to step into the Coordinator role. We didn’t have any takers – so here’s my last call……..if anyone is interested, please contact me.

The coaches have asked me to help coordinate parental support at regattas (with or without a coordinator). I have met with them to talk about types of meals that would best support the rowers while racing. They have provided me with a list of the regattas where they would appreciate support. We can use the RTC (the GVSU Rowing Center) to store supplies (rather than at Therese’s house). So, as soon as I get a list of the new novice parent email addresses, I will get an email out specifically regarding the regattas.

On the GVSU website, www.grandvalleyrowing.com, you will find all the latest rowing news, so be sure to check the website often. The 2011-2012 schedule is also posted there.

Thanks to ALL of you for all your support! Go Laker Navy!!
