Laker Navy Returning From Dad Vail

The Lakers had a great time at the 79th Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, PA. Despite the second half of the finals day being cancelled due to poor racing conditions, the Laker Navy had a successful regatta.

The big finish of the weekend for the Lakers was the Women’s Varsity Heavyweight 8+, finishing 5th in the Grand Final. Less than two seconds from a medal, the crew has greatly improved from the early spring. The boat will look to continue their momentum into ACRA.

The Men’s Varsity Heavyweight 8+ finished 4th in a fast Petite Final behind Michigan, Temple, and Marietta. The Men’s 2nd Varsity 8+ finished 3rd in their Petite Finals after a strong showing in their opening heat. The Women’s 2nd Varsity 8+ also finished third in their petite.

The Men’s Varsity Pair, Men’s Novice 4+, Women’s Novice 4+, and the Men’s 1x’s respective finals were cancelled due to weather. Each had competitive races early Friday but fell short of the top finals.

With one Regatta left in the season, the team moves past Dad Vail and turns our attention forward to the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) Regatta. Thank you to all of the parents and fans who came out to support us this weekend!

The Grand Valley State University Rowing Club challenges its student-athletes to reach the highest level to which they aspire both academically and athletically, while continuing to build and sustain a nationally competitive intercollegiate rowing program.
