San Diego Crew Classic 2018 – WV8+ 2nd Place

Spring season is upon us! This weekend, the Women’s Varsity 8+ has made the 2,200 mile journey to the Golden Coast of California, where they competed in the San Diego Crew Classic Regatta in the Women’s Collegiate Varsity DII/III/Club event. Last year in the same event, the Laker Navy finished 3rd overall. This year, the Laker Navy took 2nd having retained three of the rowers who competed in San Diego last year. This year’s boat had plenty of power and a lot of motivation to put that power behind every stroke on the racecourse. The Lakers were seeded 3rd coming into the regatta.

The women flew to San Diego, CA on Thursday to prepare for their races on Saturday and Sunday. The races were streamed live. Saturday’s heat was at 8:56 AM PST and the women’s varsity 8+ won their heat over the University of California Davis, The University of Calgary Rowing Club, and Cal State Long Beach Crew with a time of 7:26.0.

The grand final was Sunday at 8:48am PST (11:48am EST) and the women’s varsity 8+ placed 2nd with a time of 7:27.1 behind University of California San Diego who took 1st with a time of 7:24.4. However the Laker Navy placed 2nd over Purdue Crew, Seattle Pacific University Crew, University of California Davis, and the University of Calgary Rowing Club.

Keep pulling for the Laker Navy and check our website often for the latest news, pictures, and events.
