Due to flooding on the Grand River and concerns regarding increased debris, the 45th Mid-America Collegiate Rowing Association Championship will be relocated to Bass River Quarry in Ottawa County, Michigan. This is an 1850-meter long six-lane course with plenty of warm-up room; the water is protected and without current.

In order to run a smooth and successful regatta, we need your help in informing your team, friends, family, and supporters. The regatta location is approximately fifteen minutes west of the GVSU campus. Below you will find parking instructions for trailers, vans, buses, and spectators. Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to a great day of racing.

Welcome

Dear Participants:

I would like to invite you to the 45th MACRA Regatta to be held at Comstock Riverside Park on the Grand River in Grand Rapids, MI on Saturday, May 2, 2009. The Grand River is one of the greatest venues in the Midwest for a regatta. The straight 2000 meter, partially buoyed course is is run against a mild current and not affected by boat traffic. A bicycle path follows the length of the course and the finish venue and finish line provide ample space for parking and viewing the last 500 meters of the course.

The MACRA Regatta was founded in the spring of 1965 by the Purdue University Crew Club to foster rowing in the Midwest. Since the founding of the Association, the regatta has moved throughout the Midwest. The membership voted to hold the 2006 and 2008 regatta in Athens, Ohio. In 2006 the coaches voted to alternate the MACRA between a north and south venue on an alternating year basis. This year (2009) it is in the north and we are hopeful that everyone stays involved in an event that was built by famous coaches like the late Ralph Lindamood at Marietta College and by many other crews throughout the Midwest.

At Grand Valley and Michigan State University’s we are very honored with this opportunity and are working hard to put on a fair and exciting regatta. We can assure you that the 2009 MACRA Regatta is going to be a successful event.

We look forward to seeing your crew’s race this spring. We appreciate your participation in past MACRA Regatta’s. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Regards,

John M. Bancheri (GVSU)
